New Spam Variety - Co-Author Invites

We're working on plugging the hole that allows people to send this request (see below) out to a lot of people on the site. We don't think it's the user whose account is "Blogmemes" so don't flame her, please. And, sorry we're a bit slow to jump on this, but a very close MyBlogLog relation got married this weekend. We're working up to the point where Yahoo! natives can address this problem without one of the original crew, but we're not there yet.

Hi rafer,

I would like to add you as a co-author of my MyBlogLog community below:

Blog/Site: Progressive House (http://www.[link removed].com)
MyBlogLog community: http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/community/[text removed]/

UPDATE: The spam hole has been plugged.  The emails that have been sent are still active, but no new bogus co-author emails should go out.  We'll delete the bogus co-authors over the next couple of days.  Thanks for everyone's patience.

I got spammed as well. Here is the wording of the email I received:

Right... so how do we get rid of it...?

wow! Too many people are getting this spam. Yesterday, I got the same invitation email and when I visited "Blogmemes" blog profile, it was full of co-authors! More co-authors than the community members! I deleted the email without clicking on the confirmation link.

Glad to see you people are doing something to solve these type of problems. :)

I got the same spam and was stupid enough to click on....so HOW do we get rid of it?

Me too. It's bad ju ju.

How do we get rid of it? MBL needs more options to remove yourself from stuff. Easy to add and difficult to remove is no fun indeed.

I blogged about it;

Mick from Tangler.

Is there a way to customize the "Community readers" even more to display on my site?

I want to do something where it shows the most recent in a big with text format and the rest in a smaller no-text format...any way to do that?

Just wanted to say thanks for fixing this! I made the mistake of clicking the link and then couldn't even get out of the page, it locked my browser up and ran me out of RAM, and that's going some, believe me! I've run a malware and virus scan and it was clean, fortunately, so no hatm, no foul!

Nice you guys got on this and removed the authors quickly. If you want to see a snapshot of one of the mybloglog profiles with a long long line of authors you can see it in a post of mine.

I know! I clicked okay on this too, but then I removed it by going on MyBlogLog and choose "Edit Settings" under the blog you no longer want to co-author, then scroll to the bottom right and choose "Remove Site/Blog" to get rid of the unwanted blog.

Thanks, that was really annoying.

I got them too.. Thnx for repairing things.

I’m another one who got caught out by this spam (silly in thinking I was supporting another blogger) and clicked on this link so now I am getting flooded with messages from Blogmemes_Belgium! So please sort this out and please remove me from this co-author business at Blogmemes as quickly as possible and stop those emails coming, thanks! (Makes you wary of clicking on MyBlogLog things though!).

I got one of those. :/
Why I can't writing in profile of people? Strange :(

This was a great idea. However, I noticed today all my old comments that others have left are gone. My Flickr pics on my profile are gone. And other contacts are gone. ????

Thanks for bringing this nonsense up, Rafir.

I got hit with it too and was dismayed. The goof already had 181 co-authors when I checked into it.

My initial thought was that none of it made sense so I deleted the email only to find out that I had been joined against my consent or acknowledgment.

I'm ready to give MyBlogLog the ax. I'll not be associated to garbage like this. I feel raped and embarrassed.

I'm curious if the others are aware of how they've been inappropriately used. I think I'll ask around and see if I'm the only one feeling like this.

*Hugs*
